Annecy vacation

The large red transparent circular area shown represents roughly a five minute walk from the apartment. This includes being able to get into the old town, to the shopping centres, as well as to the beaches and recreation areas alongside the lake.

Annecy centre

Old prison AnnecyAnnecy is a town packed with history and interesting architecture, museums and a castle, superb and friendly restaurants serving mostly local and traditional cuisine, art galleries, antique shops and many other shops selling quality locally made goods. There are markets on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays selling local produce of every type and those are an experience not to be missed for the ambiance, let alone the produce itself!

There are many events in Annecy throughout the year, from the family delight of le Retour d'Alpage with cows decorated with flowers, many other animals and bands parading throughout the town, to the modern delights of the Animation Festival and the summer fireworks over the lake. See our events page for more information.

Centre CommercialleThe main shopping centre is to the west of us and blends south into the old town. Here you will find both well known names and more specialist retailers. Towards the station is the Courier Centre with indoor shopping, restaurants and multi-screen cinema. The Galleries Lafayette department store is situated just to the north of us.

Le Pâquier

Le PaquierLe Pâquier is directly opposite our apartment and our balcony looks out over this to the lake. It is a beautiful tree-lined green area bordering the lake and much beloved by the Anneciennes for strolls and enjoying the sunshine. It makes for a beautiful route to walk into the old town. From the end of April until October you can hire motor boats and enjoy your own boat trip around the lake, or for the more energetic, there are pedaloes, rowboats and kayaks available. There is also a public boat launch so you can launch your own kayaks. Le Pâquier is bordered on the road side with a wide cycle path, Le Piste Cyclable, leading around the lake for cycles and roller blading. An old carousel just adds a final touch to all that is available here.

Plage de L'Imperial & Plage d'Albigny

Plage AnnecyThis is much more than just a beach! The plage provides access to swim in the lake, with pontoons and a slide. In the summer months access to the swimming and many of the amenities here is charged, but it is not expensive and offers a variety of activities including mini-golf, trampolines, volley ball, mini ride-on railway and sun loungers, etc.

Beside the plage de L'Imperial there is a recreation area, free to use, with aviary, childrens' play park, Dotto train and more. Just past the plage de L'Imperial and the Imperial Palace Hotel, the plage d'Albigny starts, providing several hundred metres of sand and swimming access.

lake cruises

cruiseboatsIt is interesting to stroll down to this area simply to watch the boats and all that is going on. This can be reached via the Lovers bridge and Jardins de l'Europe. If you dont fancy piloting your own boat, or want to visit some of the other towns and villages around the lake, the cruises are a must. It is very popular to take a boat to Menthon St Barnard, disembark for a lunch overlooking the lake and a stroll along the boardwalk, and return a few hours later. There are cruises and trips available with commentaries on the history and sights, or ones available with onboard restaurants to enjoy a meal whilst you cruise.
